Professor Bennett Kangumu - In Memoriam

The Museums Association of Namibia (MAN) has learned, with a heavy heart, about the passing of Professor Bennett Kangumu, a seasoned historian and long-time member and friend of MAN on 24 September 2024.

Prof. Kangumu's impact on the Namibian museum landscape, heritage, arts and culture sector is immeasurable. Prof. Kangumu's passion and leadership started as early as 1998 when he was a member of the UNAM History Society, which later culminated in the eventual formalisation of MAN as a legal entity.

Amongst other collaborations, Prof. Kangumu has been a member of MAN's Executive Committee and later chaired the Zambezi Museum Advisory Committee (ZAMAC) from 2019 until the museum was finally opened in May 2021. He facilitated the opening of one of the most valuable heritage resources not only for Katima Mulilo and the Zambezi Region but for Namibia and we are eternally grateful.
