Invitation: We Want Them Back App launch on 21 March 2024

"In Germany, more than 17,000 ancestral remains from all over the world are kept in so-called collections in museums and universities. Information about these ancestors is difficult to find, especially for civil society members and descendants who want to bring their ancestors home. 

In an attempt to get an overview of the situation of ancestral remains from colonial contexts in Berlin, we published a report in 2022. During the presentation of the results to community members, Santi Hitorangi of Repat.A-Take had the idea of developing a user-friendly app to make the limited information easily accessible to descendants and provide a space for sharing stories of and tools for repatriation processes across borders. 

Together with Repat.A-Take and the designers and programmers of Visual Intelligence, we would like to invite you to a sneak preview of the web-based application WE WANT THEM BACK. It is designed as a living application where everyone can contribute in a sense of solidarity and compassion – growing by sharing knowledge. For this reason, we would like to show you the current version of the App, even though it is still limited in the data we have available.
